Iran’s Father of Atomic Science Visits TPM

Akbar-EtemadOn Tuesday 28 April 2015, Professor Akbar Etemad, the former Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), visited the Tehran Peace Museum (TPM) to familiarize himself with the chemical weapons used against Iran during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988).  Professor Etemad – known as Iran’s father of atomic science – was also introduced to a number of war victims and chemical weapons survivors who are actively involved in peace initiatives at the museum.

“Visiting this museum and talking with the war victims makes me feel happy and proud,” said Professor Etemad, “and we Iranians are indebted to these survivors for their sacrifices made during the Imposed War.”  The professor was impressed by the rich material in the museum and by the experiences shared by the chemical weapons survivors themselves.

To conclude his visit and in recognition of his great contribution to nuclear science in Iran, Professor Etemad was presented with a memorial plaque of the museum by Ms. Koniko Yamamura, the museum’s Japanese-Iranian volunteer who lost her son during the Iran-Iraq War.
